Super Mario Sunshine has progressed quite a big deal in terms of development, since the first screenshots were released a few months ago. According to Nintendo, Mario and Princess Peach are travelling off to "a beautiful remote island", which has been polluted by this someone, and it's up to Mario to save the day, again! Sounds a little cheesy doesn't it? But at least that is better than having Bowser again. The game also involves collecting things called "Shines", similar to the stars in Super Mario 64. There was a time when it was rumoured that Mario will become more "mature", that doesn't really seem like the case now, as Super Mario Sunshine goes back to the roots of Super Mario 64, but with improved graphics and other enhancements. There are also lighting effects and the use of reflections to make the game look superb. Pretty much the expectations for a current generation console game. This game is pretty much the standard platform game as it is known now. But Mario's little water pump device will likely play a role in the game. What a great way to add in to this summer title with a splash (sorry with the pun). Similarly to Luigi's vacuum in Luigi's Mansion, but the difference is that is this game is in a total 3D environment, while LM had a little less freedom in movement. One thing about Super Mario Sunshine is that the game looks really good, it's not causing a stir in the game industry, there are tons of platform games out there, and this just happens to be one of them. People won't see this game as big as Super Mario 64, as its just an improvement over it. Mario can also do his regular routine such as running, jumping, wall kicking, climbing, swimming, and flying. While Luigi in his game can barely do anything but walk. There also seems to be a bunch more fun in SMS, which includes water surfing, the ever-so-popular fences from Super Mario World are there too. The worlds in this game are vast, and it looks like there is lot to explore and collect. The appearance of Mario's friends such as Toad, Yoshi, and Princess Peach add into the excitement of this upcoming game. Finally, Mario and Yoshi will be able to team up again, first time since Super Mario World, which is 11 years ago. It is not known what exactly Yoshi's role in the game is, but hopefully it won't be a minor one. There is a lot to be excited about Super Mario Sunshine, it's a game that's been developed for years, and many are eagerly awaiting the next game of the Super Mario series. -- Hairball (hairball@sm128c.com) Bottom Line: Mario's next adventure.
